Crabbe Mailing List

The CRABBE mailing list has been set up for the CRABBE family in all it's variant spellings. Ask your Crabbe-related genealogical questions of an audience that has a specific interest in the same names - Crabbe, Crabb, Crab, Crabe, Crabbs, Craib, Crabbie, Craber, Krabbe, Krebs and any other variations that I've either forgotten or possibly not even thought of. With this mailing list you can control how the postings arrive to you - either "Mail Mode" where each message posted to the list will arrive in your mailbox as an individual email, or "Digest Mode" where messages are accumulated on an approximately daily basis and sent to you as a single larger email.
There is also a CRABB list and the following comments apply equally, albeit with the 'E' omitted.

To subscribe to the CRABBE list send an email containing the single word "subscribe" (without the quotation marks) to one of the following addresses :-

Full details of how to post messages, unsubscribe during holidays etc will be sent to you in a welcome message as soon as your subscribe request has been processed - from then on you will see all messages posted to the mailing list by all subscribers (including yourself). It would be nice if the first message a new subscriber sends to the mailing list after receiving their welcome message was a brief statement of their connections to the Crabbe family and their current area(s) of research.

I've included the texts below so that you don't have to remember the instructions, or save them somewhere on your discs.

New CRABBE-L (mail mode) subscribers receive:

Welcome to the CRABBE mailing list! You are currently subscribed in "mail mode", which means that you will receive every posting made to CRABBE as a separate e-mail. The directions on how to change to digest mode are given below.

1. How to unsubscribe. Send a message to that contains (in the body of the message) the command "unsubscribe" and no additional text.

2. How to subscribe. Whatever you just did worked, or you'd not be getting this message. But for future reference (for instance, if your subscription is cancelled for whatever reason and you want to resubscribe), just send the command "subscribe" to .

3. How to change to digest mode (several postings are combined and sent to you together as a single large message). There are two steps.
First, send the command "unsubscribe" to to discontinue mail mode.
Second, send the command "subscribe" to to start receiving digests.

4. How to change to NOMAIL mode. There is no formal NOMAIL mode. All you have to do is follow the directions above and unsubscribe when you want the messages to stop, and then when you want them to start again, simply subscribe again.

5. When you post a message everyone on the mailing list receives it, just send it to . It will then be sent on to everyone in both mail and digest mode. You do NOT need to send it explicitly to both.

New CRABBE-D (digest) subscribers receive:

You are currently subscribed in "digest mode", which means that several postings made to CRABBE will be consolidated together and sent to you as a single large message. The directions on how to change to mail mode (where you receive every message as a separate e-mail) are given below.

1. How to unsubscribe. Send a message to that contains (in the body of the message) the command "unsubscribe" and no additional text.

3. How to change to mail mode (each posting is sent to you as a separate e-mail). There are two steps.
First, send the command "unsubscribe" to to discontinue digest mode.
Second, send the command "subscribe" to to start receiving individual messages.
